UNIT OVERVIEW
Patterns are everywhere. You see them in floor tiles, in music rhythms, and in the seasons that repeat each year.
Mathematics is about finding patterns and describing them with rules.
In this unit, you will learn to:
- Spot patterns in numbers and shapes
- Extend patterns (predict what comes next)
- Describe patterns in words
- Write algebraic rules for patterns
- Work with patterns shown in tables, diagrams, and physical forms
Why patterns matter:
- Saving money: If you save R10 more each week, how much will you have in week 20?
- Building: If each row of bricks has 3 more than the row below, how many bricks are in row 15?
- Growth: If a plant grows 2 cm taller each week, how tall will it be after 8 weeks?
Patterns help us predict what will happen and understand the world around us.
