UNIT OVERVIEW
In this unit, you will work with three-dimensional (3D) shapes. You learned the basics in Grade 10. Now you will apply these skills to more complex problems.
Every container, building, and piece of packaging uses measurement principles. When engineers design water tanks, they calculate capacity. When manufacturers create boxes, they work out how much material is needed.
By the end of this unit, you will be able to:
- Calculate the volume and surface area of right prisms, cylinders, spheres, right pyramids, and right cones
- Apply formulae to composite shapes (shapes made of two or more solids)
- Solve multi-step problems involving measurement
- Convert between different units of measurement
- Solve problems involving capacity, material costs, and optimisation
