UNIT OVERVIEW
Circle geometry is one of the most important topics in Grade 11 Mathematics. The theorems you learn here connect to each other, forming a system of geometric rules that will sharpen your logical thinking and problem-solving skills.
By the end of this unit, you will be able to:
- Prove that a tangent to a circle is perpendicular to the radius at the point of contact
- Apply the theorem that a perpendicular from the centre to a chord bisects the chord
- Prove and use the relationship between angles at the centre and angles at the circumference
- Work with angles subtended by the same arc (angles in the same segment)
- Prove and apply properties of cyclic quadrilaterals
- Use the equal tangent theorem from an external point
- Apply the tan-chord angle theorem (alternate segment theorem)
- Solve geometric riders using theorems and their converses
