UNIT OVERVIEW
Analytical geometry connects algebra and geometry on the Cartesian plane. You will use formulas to find distances, gradients (slopes), and midpoints instead of measuring with rulers.
By the end of this unit, you will be able to:
- Plot and identify geometric figures on a Cartesian plane
- Calculate the exact distance between any two points
- Determine the gradient (slope) of a line segment
- Identify when lines are parallel or perpendicular using gradients
- Find the midpoint of any line segment
- Apply these skills to prove properties of geometric figures
